The Crypt 2: Slot Overview

Like the zombies who populate its game world, Nolimit City's The Crypt has crawled out of the grave to come back and rock the living in a sequel titled The Crypt 2. Flesh-dripping undead, heavy metal, bats, bones, all of that is here to raise a chill up the spine of returning, or new, players. The gaming has been reworked too, so instead of turning Legends wild as occurred in the past, they contribute eyes to a collection system, which increases a win multiplier. So if you're down for some hanging out in a mausoleum, with creepy crawlies, at night, then The Crypt 2 might be the ideal accompaniment, let's eyeball it and see.

A dank, monochrome graveyard is where The Crypt 2 chooses to spend its time. A purple mist colours the bottom of the screen, and the scene doesn't change a whole heck of a lot when free spins are active. The eyeball at the top of the reels is back, zapping certain symbols when they land in view. Otherwise, the game is all bones, skeletons, the undead, clanging bells, dread, that sort of thing, oh, and of course, rock 'n' roll. The Crypt 2 goes to show that music is so powerful, man, it lives on after the body has rotted in the ground and song royalties are going to a soulless corporation that bought the rights to the back catalogue.

The reel area has been redesigned to now include 6 reels, holding 7 positions each, though the top three rows are locked. By default, there are 4,096 ways to win, but when positions are unlocked and xWays are landing, there can be up to 531,441 ways at full expansion. Math model volatility is 10 out of 10 (high), while the highest RTP confirmation is slightly higher than before at 96.1%. Wagers of $/€0.20 to $/€100 may be placed.

Nine to Ace card ranks are the lower paying symbols, awarding 0.5x to 0.75x the bet. Dead Legends make up the high pays where six zombie rockers shamble onto the reels. Landing a winning combination made up of 6 matching Dead Legend symbols pays 1x to 2.5x the bet. Winning symbols vanish from view and symbols cascade down to fill the reels. If a new win appears after a cascade, the mechanic triggers again. Symbols in locked positions do not drop down during cascades.

The Crypt 2: Slot Features

Some of The Crypt 2's features have been resurrected from the previous game, such as xNudge Wilds and xWays, while some are newer, like the Eye Collection feature, Forsaken Fingers, and a newly worked Entombed Spins round. Boosters and buys are available as well.

Features

• xNudge Wild - When an xNudge Wild symbol hits, it nudges down to the bottom row, where it becomes a stacked wild with a multiplier. Each nudge increases the xNudge Wild multiplier depending on how many nudges it took to reach the bottom row. xNudge Wild multipliers are additive. Wilds substitute all symbols except the scatter, and the xNudge Wild multiplier only applies to wins it is involved in.
• xWays - xWays is a mystery symbol that holds 2 or 3 of the same symbol inside it and expands the reels. Any reel can land an xWay symbol, which can be expanded up to 9 positions high. If more than one xWays lands, they all reveal the same symbol.
• Forsaken Fingers - A Forsaken Fingers symbol unlocks the nearest position on the locked rows of its reel and any adjacent reels, if present. It then becomes wild.
• Eye Collector & Spider - The lowest paying Dead Legend symbol has 1 eye, while all others have 2 eyes. The Eye Collector symbol collects eyes from Dead Legend symbols in the active area. For every 5 eyes collected, the total win multiplier increases by 1. It then converts to a wild. The Spider is activated when an Eye Collector is present. Spider symbols randomly generate 4-12 eyes, which are collected by the Eye Collector, then it turns into a wild.

Entombed Spins

Landing 3+ scatters triggers Entombed Spins. Any scatter may upgrade to a Red Moon scatter. The number of spins awarded is +2 for each scatter and +3 for each Red Moon scatter. Each progression level in free spins has a Dead Legend symbol that requires 4 collected gems to advance to the next level. At the first level, all Dead Legend symbols on the reels have the same number of eyes as in the base game. With each level upgrade, the Dead Legend symbol for that level has double the number of eyes. Each level upgrade awards +2 free spins. Unlocked positions from Forsaken Fingers and the total win multiplier persist between spins.

Nolimit Boosters & Nolimit Bonus Buys

Several options are available at the Nolimit Booster section:

• Bonus Booster - Costs 2x the bet to make it 3 times more likely to trigger Entombed Spins.
• Booster Forsaken Fingers - Costs 20x to guarantee at least 3 Forsaken Fingers.
• Booster xWays +7 Rows - Costs 30x to guarantee at least 2 xWays with 7 active rows.
• Booster xNudge +7 Rows - Costs 90x to guarantee at least 1 xNudge with 7 active rows.
• Booster Eye Collector +7 Rows - Costs 199x to guarantee an Eye Collector and Spider with 7 active rows.

From the Nolimit buy section, players can get 6, 8, or 10 Entombed Spins, or a lucky draw for 80x, 200x, 500x, or 210x the bet, respectively.

The Crypt 2: Slot Verdict

If The Crypt 2 proves anything, it's that Nolimit City doesn't do subtle, and if you're going to dig up the past again, you may need a bigger shovel. The game squirms with a reinvigorated, necrotic energy which matches the first, while digging the grave just that little bit deeper than before. Audiovisually, the two games are quite comparable, though it was harder to pick out who the Dead Legends might be this time. The Crypt's legends were more obvious, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, etc, whereas apart from Ozzy, the premium symbols in The Crypt 2 were tougher to distinguish. No matter, they're something for music buffs to enjoy puzzling out.

The features may take a moment or two to puzzle out as well. Not because they are complicated, but because they are different from the original. Well, not the xNudge Wilds and xWays so much, since they're Nolimit City staples, but Entombed Spins have been worked over. There was a feeling that free spins were more evenly spread than they were last time, as it seemed less obvious that the bonus was fizzling out after reaching a certain point. Naturally, this is a slot, so results may vary, wildly. As for deeper grave, The Crypt 2 possesses greater winning potential of 31,248x the bet, named In Memoriam, should it ever happen. When considering the win multiplier, xNudge Wild multipliers, and the chance of having over half a million ways to win, that figure certainly seems technically doable.

All in all, The Crypt 2 slays as hard as its predecessor, though maybe not significantly more, despite feeling somewhat evened out, if that's the right phrase, and the undead shock value has lessened being the second time around. However, if skeletons, heavy metal, and seeing what an Iron Maiden album cover come to life might look like are of interest, then The Crypt 2 is a skull-banging must-see.
